Enter the De’Longhi La Specialista Maestro Espresso Machine, which has made it surprisingly easy to dive into espresso drinks at home, and it delivers fantastic results, even with preground coffee. Straight out of the box, I only had a high-quality grocery store blend on hand (Major Dickason’s), which was preground. To my surprise, even this brewed beautifully. The machine elevated that preground coffee to produce a smooth, rich, and layered shot that tasted like something I’d get from a café. Of course, I ordered fresh beans and had them the next day, so I was able to quickly experiment with the built-in grinder. It has 15 grind settings for dialing in different flavors, which I appreciate as someone with a passion for exploring flavor profiles; I'll really be getting overly caffeinated experimenting with these settings! One of the standout features for me is the Smart Tamping Technology. As a beginner, tamping can be intimidating, but this machine has a built-in lever that takes all the guesswork out. Just pull the lever, and it tamps perfectly every time with no mess or inconsistencies. I’ve been making cappuccinos and lattes mostly, and the drinks have been fantastic. I am a huge coffee lover, but I have never owned an espresso machine like this before. This machine is super easy to get the hang of, even for a beginner like me who had never pulled a shot of espresso before. It works great with whole beans and pre-ground coffee. It makes your coffee-making endeavors delicious and convenient. The body. The most important thing to note is that this coffee maker is fairly large. It does not fit under any of my cabinets. This wasn't a huge issue for me, but just something to be aware of. With that, the water tank does lie at the back of the machine and you need to pull it up a bit in order to detach it, which makes keeping it under your cabinets even more difficult unless you intend to fill the tank with a pitcher. It is easy to clean, and all of the pieces have instructions. Coffee filters and milk pitchers are dishwasher-safe and the machine itself is easy to clean by running water through it. Overall, the heavy and large footprint of this machine is definitely worth it for the quality. Ease of use. All of the instructions for this machine were very easy to follow. There are 15 grind settings, and the machine even comes with a guide of the heat and grind settings you should use for various roast of beans and strength of coffee. This was extremely helpful for a beginner like me. It will take a few tries to get your ideal settings, but especially if you stick to one kind of bean, this adjustment period won't be too bad. I figured it out after just a few shots. The smart tamping technology also made it much easier, as the machine grinds your coffee and there is a lever on the side that tamps your espresso with very minimal effort or mess. The steamer was fairly easy to use as well, and you can steam milk manually or using the automatic LatteCrema system. This coffee machine also makes it easy to customize the type of coffee.
